Winners of Morton Masterpiece Contest

By Janelle Cahoon, Quiltcentric

The Old Country Store Fabrics Shop and Andover Fabrics Company have announced the winners of the Morton Masterpiece Quilt Contest.

After more than 6,300 online votes were cast, the “People’s Choice” winner was Geese in Jo’s Garden by Lauren Devantier of Amherst, New York, a beautifully complex scrappy-style quilt combining pieced Flying Geese and New York Beauty elements with floral appliqué.

The “Judges’ Choice” winner, chosen by representatives of OldCountryStoreFabrics.com, The Quilt Museum at The Old Country Store and Andover Fabrics, was Jo-motion by C. Jean Horst of Bird-in-Hand, Pennsylvania.  This unusual design utilized fabric strips re-combined into “yardage” and re-cut into block pieces.  It had New York Beauty and other arc-element squares and an undulating border of triangle “teeth”.

Both quilts will be on display beginning Jan 21st and throughout 2013 at The Quilt Museum at The Old Country Store, but if you can’t make it there to see the quilts in person, photos of the two winning quilts are currently online at mortonmasterpiece.com.
