AAQI Sprint to the Finish

AAQI Sprint to the Finish

By Janelle Cahoon, Quiltcentric

If you’ve been thinking that you really should make a quilt (or make another quilt) to donate to the Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative you might need to get started on it, as time is running out.

Ami Simms, Founder and Executive Director of AAQI, has announced that 2013 will be the last year of fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative, which since its inception in 2006 has raised over $883,000 through donation and sale of over 13,000 quilts.  So far 14 research studies have been funded by AAQI at universities and a medical school to better understand Alzheimer’s.

Hundreds of thousands of people have seen the two AAQI traveling art quilt exhibits, with their artistic and emotional representation of the impact of Alzheimer’s.

Ami has announced that July, 2013 will be the last month to participate in the Quilt-A-Month Club.  The last day to register Priority:  Alzheimer’s Quilts is August 1, 2013.  (More info and guidelines are here.)

With this big Sprint to the Finish, the Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative expects to reach its goal of raising $1 million for Alzheimer’s research and education by the end of 2013.  For more information on how to participate in this final push, visit the AAQI website.
