Quilt Blocks Collected for Boston Bomb Victims

Quilt Blocks Collected for Boston Bomb Victims

By Janelle Cahoon, Quiltcentric

The Boston Modern Quilt Guild is reaching out to the quilting community for donations of quilt blocks which the guild will then make into comfort quilts for those affected by the Boston Marathon bombings.

The guild is requesting the blocks be machine-pieced, “quilt shop quality” 100% cotton or cotton/linen fabrics in blue, yellow, gray and white (the colors of the Boston Marathon).  Blocks should be 12 ½” tall, but any width is acceptable.  They will also be accepting donations of blue, yellow, gray or white fabric to be used for binding, sashing and quilt backs.

Because the guild wants to finish and deliver the quilts as soon as possible to those who need them, the postmark deadline for the blocks is set for May 24th, 2013.  Send blocks or any of the other requested materials to:  Quilts for Boston, P.O. Box 79225, Belmont, MA 02479.

To read more about this effort, go to the website for the Boston Modern Quilt Guild.  There are also FAQs and a Flickr album of the blocks that have already been received.
