Grand Central Terminal Centennial Quilt Challenge

Grand Central Terminal Centennial Quilt Challenge

By Janelle Cahoon, Quiltcentric

The City Quilter quilt shop and American Patchwork & Quilting magazine are sponsoring a quilt contest in honor of the 100th anniversary of Grand Central Terminal in New York.

The City Quilter has developed two fabric designs, “Grand Central” and GCT Constellations,” available in ivory and aqua, to celebrate this anniversary.  Quilt entries in the contest must use these fabrics in at least 25% of the quilt’s surface.

Quilts must be no larger than 36” x 36”, and entries must be received by the Aug. 21, 2013 deadline.  Complete rules and entry forms are available here.

Prizes awarded will include $2,000 for the Grand Prize winner; first and second prizes are City Quilter gift certificates, and 9 honorable mention winners will receive 6 fat quarters of New York themed fabrics and the book Complete Guide to Quilting.

The contest is being held in association with the NY Transit Museum and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which will allow the winners and finalist quilts to be exhibited in the NY Transit Museum Gallery Annex and Store at Grand Central Terminal.  In addition, American Patchwork & Quilting magazine has plans to write about the competition and submissions next year. This might be an opportunity to see your work in print or on display in one of the top tourist destinations in New York!
