World Quilt Competition XVII Entry Deadline

World Quilt Competition XVII Entry Deadline

By Janelle Cahoon, Quiltcentric

Entries are now being accepted for the 2013 World Quilt Competition, with the quilts to be shown at the World Quilt Show – New England in Manchester, NH.  The deadline for mailed-in and online entries is July 10, 2013, so time is short if you’re thinking of entering.

Quilt size for this contest must be greater than or equal to 1,296 square inches, with a maximum allowed size of 108” in width and 108: in length.  For a size comparison, a quilt that measures 45” x 30” would be 1,350 square inches.

Quilts can be entered in either the Traditional or Innovative category, each offering First Prize ($800), 2nd Prize ($500), 3rd Prize ($300), and 3 Honorable Mention ribbons, plus awards for Best Use of Color ($150), Best Hand Workmanship ($150) and Best Machine Workmanship ($150). This year’s Best of World winner will receive $2,000, and a special $500 Best of Country award will be given to one quilt from any country that has a minimum of 10 quilts entered.

An exciting option for the winners of this competition is the chance to have their prize-winning quilts displayed on tour to 3 other shows after the World Quilt Show – New England closes.  The touring quilts will also be displayed at Pennsylvania National Quill Extravaganza (September), Pacific International Quilt Festival (October) and the World Quilt Show – Florida (January, 2014).

Official rules and entry forms are here.  If you’re planning to attend the show, which runs August 15-18, 2013, check out the workshops, hours, etc. on the show website.
