2013 Pennsylvania National Quilt Show Entry Deadlines

2013 Pennsylvania National Quilt Show Entry Deadlines

By Janelle Cahoon, Quiltcentric

The theme of this year’s Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza is “Take Me Home.”  If you’re planning to enter a quilt in it, you’ll need to submit your entry materials by August 21, 2013.

The quilts are divided into “wall quilts,” defined as quilts more than 576 square inches but less than 1,900 square inches, and “quilts” greater than or equal to 1,900 square inches.  It sounds really bug, but a quilt that’s 45” x 45” is 2,025 square inches, so looking at it that way certainly makes it less intimidating.

There are some excellent prizes, with “Best of Show” winning $1,500 plus a BabyLock “Melody” machine, and the Bernina 1st Runner-Up receiving a Bernina 350 PE machine.  Categories for entry include Wall Quilts, with a top prize of $700, and then the larger quilts that can be entered in either the Traditional Category or the Innovative Category, each with a top prize of $1,000, with cash prizes also given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and ribbons for Honorable Mention in each category.  There are also cash prizes for Best Hand Workmanship, Best Machine Workmanship, Best Use of Color, Best Use of Embellishment and Best Interpretation of Theme in both the Traditional and Innovative Categories, so there are lots of prizes available.

The show itself will run Sept. 19-22, 2013 at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, PA.  If you’re thinking of attending, check out the workshops being offered here.
