2013 Pacific International Quilt Festival Deadlines

2013 Pacific International Quilt Festival Deadlines

By Janelle Cahoon, Quiltcentric

This year’s Pacific International Quilt Festival’s quilt entry forms are now available online for anyone who has a quilt they’d like to enter in the competition.  The entry deadline is September 3, 2013.

This year’s quilt competition theme is “Indie” and the entry form asks for a brief artist’s statement on the topic:  “Quilt artists are the epitome of “Indie” artists.  How does your independence relate to your quilt art?”  It’s an interesting question to ponder whether you’re entering a quilt in the show or not, and I’ll be curious to see how this theme is reflected in the winning quilts.

Quilts are to be entered as either “Quilts,” with an area of 1,900 square inches or larger, or “Wall Quilts,” with an area less than 1,900 square inches but more than 576 square inches.  For comparison, a quilt that’s 45”x45” would be 2,025 square inches.  The Quilts division is further divided into Traditional and Innovative categories.

Overall prizes include the Yuko Watanabe Best of Show Award of $3,000 and the Bernina 1st Runner-Up Award of a Bernina Activa 215 Machine plus $1,000.  Awards in the Wall Quilts Category include $1,000 plus a Janome #2030 Machine for Best Wall Quilt, $800 for 2nd Place, and $600 for 3rd Place. Awards in both the Traditional and Innovative Quilts Categories are $1,500 for 1st Prize, $1,100 for 2nd Prize, and $850 for 3rd Prize.

All 3 categories also offer cash prizes for Best Machine Workmanship, Best Hand Workmanship, Best Use of Color, Best Use of Embellishment, and Best Interpretation of Theme.

See the Official Rules and entry form here.

The Pacific International Quilt Festival XXII show itself runs from Oct. 17 – 20, 2013 at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, California.  Visit the show website  for more info. on the show or to check out the instructors and workshops.
