Quilting Travel: Indiana Quilt Gardens

By Janelle Cahoon, Quiltcentric

If you’re traveling in the Midwest this summer, you might like to swing through northern Indiana to see the Quilt Gardens.

These 19 giant gardens, with colorful blossoming plants arranged in quilt-block-inspired patterns, are found in 7 communities along the Heritage Trail, including Elkhart, Wakarusa, Nappanee, Goshen, Shipshewana, Middlebury and Bristol.  There are also 20 accompanying hand-painted quilt-themed murals.  For the Heritage Trail route and more information on the locations of the gardens, go to the map on the website.

These beautiful gardens are in place from May 30 – October 1 each year, and I’ve been enjoying seeing this year’s growth on their Flickr pages.  For more information, visit the Quilt Gardens website.
